Brow Lift in New York, NY
Heavy brows and forehead wrinkles can cause your face to appear aged. Sagging eyebrows can contribute to a fatigued or grumpy appearance. Occasionally, excess tissue can hang down and cause you to have hooded eyelids. Brow lift surgery is designed to eliminate wrinkles and sagging from the forehead for a brighter, more youthful appearance.
Candidates
Ideal candidates for brow lift surgery are in good health and have realistic expectations about their results. A brow lift is designed to treat heavy or drooping brows and can provide improvement to deep forehead creases. Patients considering brow lift surgery may also identify with one or more of the following:
- Furrows between the eyebrows
- Sagging eyebrows that hang over the eyes
- A chronically fatigued or angry expression
Procedure
Brow lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia depending on the correction you require. The goal of your brow lift is to smooth the forehead and lift and reposition the brows to restore a brighter, more youthful appearance. Dr. Cha may utilize one of two techniques during your surgery depending on your problem area(s) and desired goals.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
- Uses four to five small incisions placed along the hairline
- Results in minimal scarring and has minimal effect on the hairline
- An endoscope is inserted and provides a visual of the underlying muscular structure
- Drooping muscles and brows are pulled up and sutured into place
Coronal Brow Lift
- May use an incision along the hairline of the forehead from one ear to the other
- A pre-trichial incision in front of the hairline can be used to shorten a high forehead
- The forehead muscles and brows are lifted and sutured into place
Combining Procedures
The brow lift only addresses aging around the brows and on the forehead. However, many men and women develop visible signs of aging in other areas that require correction for the best results. Combining procedures is a convenient way to ensure the results you envision. Commonly combined procedures include:
Recovery and Results
Recovery
You will experience some bruising and swelling of your forehead and around your brows. Tightness around your incision site is common. Oral pain medication can be used to control any associated discomfort. For the first week following your procedure, you should rest with your head elevated to reduce swelling. Most patients return to work within a week and resume their normal activities within four weeks. Most major swelling should begin to subside after six weeks, at which time your final results should be visible.
Results
While brow lift surgery can provide many years of correction, it does not prevent new signs of aging from forming. Protect your face from sun exposure by using sunscreen and avoiding direct sunlight. Avoid other harmful lifestyle choices and environmental factors, like smoking. Utilizing regular non-surgical options, such as facial fillers or laser treatments, can also help maintain the quality of your results.
— Scarring
Endoscopic brow lifts are designed to minimize the potential for visible scarring. Even during a coronal brow lift, Dr. Cha takes great care to mask incisions in the hairline to minimize their visibility. Any scarring that does develop is likely to fade over time.
