Lip Augmentation in New York, NY
These days, more and more women of all ages are interested in attaining full and luscious lips. Plump lips signify youth and beauty, and the desire for them has never been greater than it is today. Unfortunately, not everyone is born with full lips, and even those who are may find that their lips thin as they age, becoming almost non-existent when they smile. Lip augmentation plumps thin lips through either lip fillers or implants to enhance the size and shape of your pucker.
Candidates
Candidates for lip augmentation should be at least 18 years old, be in good health, be non-smokers, and have realistic expectations of their results. Lip augmentation can dramatically enhance:
- Naturally thin lips
- Lips that have thinned due to age
- Uneven lips
- Lips that are out of balance with your face
Lip Augmentation Procedure
Lip augmentation can be performed through many different techniques that provide both short-term and long-term results.
Lip Fillers
Lip fillers are made up of natural or synthetic material that adds volume and shape to the lips when injected. These fillers can be injected in both the upper and lower lip to increase size. Before your injection, Dr. Cha will treat the area with a numbing cream to ensure a comfortable procedure. This technique is non-surgical and requires no recovery period.
Lip Implants
For lip augmentation through implants, Dr. Cha will insert implants through tiny incisions made in the corners of the mouth to hide any scarring. These implants come in a variety of sizes, so you are able to customize your procedure. As this is a surgical technique, Dr. Cha will either use general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation to ensure a painless procedure.
Recovery and Results
Recovery
Lip enhancement, whether through implants or fillers, is an outpatient procedure. If you choose lip implants, make sure you have someone available to drive you home following the surgery. Implants will generally result in bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort for a few days. Pain medication and cold compresses should remedy any pain, and you can return to your normal activities within a few days.
Lip fillers, however, require no downtime, and you can return to your daily activities immediately following the procedure. You may experience minimal bruising and swelling, but this will dissipate within a few hours or days.
Results
The results of lip augmentation are noticeable as soon as the swelling and bruising subside. The length of your results will be dependent upon the techniques used. Lip augmentation through fillers is not a permanent technique. Although the time frame varies from patient to patient, you can expect lip fillers to last between six months and a year. Lip implants, though, are permanent for the length that you have the implants.
