Brazilian Butt Lift surgery (BBL) is the ultimate body contouring procedure that incorporates both body slimming with liposuction and autologous fat transfer for a voluptuous backside. For many patients, the only thing holding them back is the cost. This blog discusses the average cost of a BBL and what factors play into that price.

What Is the Average Cost of a BBL?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of a BBL, or buttock augmentation with fat grafting, is $7,264. However, this does not reflect the total cost of the procedure, as other fees also influence the cost.

Other factors that make up the total price of a BBL include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Facility fees
  • Medical supplies
  • Prescriptions
  • Post-surgery garments

The average cost the ASPS provides is the average surgical fee, which refers to the surgeon’s take-home fee. The other factors rely on differences in geographic location, the surgeon’s experience, and more.

How to Determine the Final Cost of Your BBL

The best way to determine the cost of your BBL is by scheduling a consultation with your board-certified plastic surgeon so they can create a surgical plan that will incorporate the specific techniques they plan to use, as well as all the unique factors that each surgeon incorporates. We’ll break down what these costs mean below.

Surgical Fees

The surgeon’s fee or surgical fee refers to the cost of performing the surgery itself—the take-home amount for the surgeon’s services. This fee also covers the costs of running a practice: rent, staff salaries, insurance, etc. The surgeon has some degree of control over how much they charge, although outside influences play a role as well. Practices in a densely populated metropolitan area often command higher fees to counter the high volume of competition in the area, as well as the higher cost of living. More experienced surgeons also charge more for their offerings, as they provide a level of service, comfort, and expertise that reflects a more luxurious experience.

Anesthesia Fees

Anesthesia fees cover the anesthesiologist’s salary for their services, as well as the cost of the anesthesia itself. General anesthesia often is more expensive than local anesthesia, so minimally invasive procedures are at a lower price point.

Facility Fees

This encompasses the cost of performing the surgery: medical supplies, nursing staff fees, medications, and any fees associated with using the surgical center. Some surgeons have their own accredited surgical center near or on their office premises; in this case, facility fees may be cheaper than if they perform surgery in a local hospital.

Other Medical Supplies

Certain procedures require extra supplies that need to be purchased for recovery. A BBL, for example, requires special compression garments to be worn immediately after surgery, as they help reduce swelling, promote faster healing, and keep the transferred fat and liposuctioned areas tight and toned. Prescribed medications such as painkillers or antibiotics may be necessary as well and would fall under this category. BBLs also often require special pillows for you to sit on during your recovery period, which you have to acquire yourself.
